July | MTF Training Exercise #7
Now we get to the meat of the training.
You may have been expecting another fun item in the mail last Friday. We hope you were seriously let down when all you saw was this card and nothing else. We even sent this late to set the stagebecause your gift this month is disappointment. It's probably the most important gift we can give you. Don't underestimate the lesson you'll learn from the gift of disappointment.
Complacency is a killer. We didn't want to spoil you each month, and thus condition you to sit back and expect an exciting gift without any effort on your part, for fear that when the time comes to act during the apocalypse you will just sit back and wait for food, shelter, and clothing to be brought to you. Here's a news flash: That ain't gonna happen. And if you thought it was, well my friend, go ahead and lay down with the first wave of casualties on December 21, 2012, because you've already given up.
Things aren't going to magically appear in your hands during the apocalypseespecially the coveted survival items. You'll need to actively hunt and/or scavenge for food. You'll need to seek out clothing, shelter, and other crucial supplies. If you wait for these items to just show up, it's going to be a mighty short apocalypse for you, and your rotting corpse may end up being somebody else's lunch.
The good news is that you can learn from your disappointment. Figure out a strategy that works for you once you experience disappointment, lock it into your noggin' and be ready to access it immediately so you can take action when needed and bounce back when things don't go the way you want. Remember, not every zombie slaying is going to be as satisfying as you'd hope. After the first baker's dozen, a freshly-baked rat kabob won't satiate your pallet the way it used to. Being able to overcome disappointment will move you past your current obstacle and help you focus on your ultimate objective: survival!
